Kilohaili on pieni kala, jota on perinteisesti pyydetty suuria määriä Skandinavian ja Baltian rannikoilla. Täällä se valmistettiin käsin ja säilöttiin purkkeihin myytäväksi pohjoismaisena versiona sardiinista.
